Sibenik is known as the oldest independent city on the Adriatic coast, situated in the most protected port, in the middle of the east coast of the Adriatic Sea at the mouth of the river Krka, probably in the area where some of the first Slavs saw the blue sea moody and beautiful, which fed them and guarded the following centuries. Sibenik is home to many celebrities: Arsen Dedic and Miso Kovac, as well as to one of the world’s best basketball player of all time, Drazen Petrovic, who was also born there.
Sibenik is characteristic for highly developed coastline, a wide cordon of coastal-Dinaric karst nearby Zagora, mountain area with Plavno and fertile fields, Knin’s Kosovo and Peter’s area, and the canyon of the river Krka and Cikole. Those tourists who plan their visit to Sibenik with a cars, the trip will be everything but certainly not uninteresting. Sea on the Sibenik coast is not only a pleasant for swimming during the most part of the year but as well it represent the main natural source which dictates economic development. Near Sibenik there are two national parks, Krka and Kornati, which deserve individual representation, but they are certainly two more attraction that is worth to visit.
Sibenik is city of a very important traffic position, located between Dubrovnik and Split and it is main station for all the bus lines that go to Dalmatian coast. The climate is typically Mediterranean, many sunny days, with relatively high summer temperatures, which constantly reduces wind that blows from sea to land. For tourists the most interesting hotels are in the resort Solaris or just a few kilometers away resort Vodice. Sibenik is a city museum, with monuments and places of exceptional cultural value, and the additional attraction of the cultural life of the city in the summer time, raises the traditional Children’s Festival in Sibenik.
