The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral -monument (bug. Храм-паметник „Свети Александър Невски“) is the Patriarchal cathedral of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. It was built in 1908. as a symbol of gratitude to the Russian, who liberated Sofia from Turkish reign at the 1878 and dedicated to St. Alexander Nevsky and Russian soldiers, who died in the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), after which Bulgaria was declared statehood.
